To whom it may concern,
I am a dedicated and passionate worker. I have extensive experience in graphic design, as well as a variety of areas outside of that expertise. I am confident in my skills and always looking to gain experience and improve so that I can constantly provide the best work possible.
My experience has been anything but traditional. I am entirely self-taught, and subsequently highly self-motivated. From a young age, I was interested in graphic and web design. That interest was ultimately realized when I was inspired to create a website, ThePersonalProgressHelper.com, at the age of 13. This allowed me to combine my interest in web and graphic design, and my desire to solve the problems I was personally facing so that others wouldn’t face the same struggles. Today, it has burgeoned into a top website in its niche, with a successful online store and companion book joining its ranks in 2016.
Since beginning, my work has continually matured and been refined, and today I am confident in my ability to provide professional level design work. I am experienced with the Adobe Creative Suite, primarily using Illustrator in creating logos, illustrations, flyers, programs, posters, web banners, and booklets. I also have experience using Photoshop for illustration and photo manipulation, and InDesign for creating book layouts and flyers.
In 2017 I took a hiatus from my work and schooling in order to serve as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Houston, Texas. This was an invaluable opportunity to grow personally, and to develop essential skills in interpersonal communication, self-discipline, and conflict resolution. Upon returning home, I came to realize that this break from graphic design work enabled me to see things with a fresh perspective, and the designs I’ve produced since returning in Spring 2019 have been exceptional.
As a blogger, freelancer, and online business owner, I’ve learned a number of important skills that go beyond software, artistry, or marketing. I’ve learned how to produce work on tight deadlines. I can stay consistently within branding constraints while still producing original work. I know how to communicate effectively with people from a huge variety of backgrounds. And most importantly, I find joy in creating things that impact other people’s lives.
Thank you for your consideration,
Deborah Owen
